MY APPROACH

I like to sum up my approach in one line: no staging, no shot lists, no cheesy posing. Your wedding day should feel like a wedding, not a photo shoot, and I treat it that way.

I want you to be completely relaxed, enjoying your day while I quietly document everything as it unfolds. My goal is to capture real emotions, laughter and all the little moments that make your wedding unique. You can’t stage your dad crying, your uncle pulling out the worm on the dance floor, or your friends racing on space hoppers. These moments just happen, and my job is to be ready for them. That’s why my approach is entirely natural, so your photos feel effortless and true to you.

Real weddings, real people, real moments.

" Ray was absolutely fantastic!! He is so kind, thoughtful, and funny, and he truly makes you feel at ease in front of the camera. Our photos were truly a great representation of our day and he captured such sweet moments with our friends and family. When we mentioned who we were using to our other vendors, they always spoke highly of his work and professionalism. If we had it all over to do again, we would pick Ray a million times over. "

YOUR STORY

My goal on your wedding day is simple, to tell your story creatively and authentically. From the moment you book until your gallery is delivered, I’m there for you, documenting every moment in a natural, unposed way while adding a touch of creativity to make the images truly yours.

I love leaving a wedding feeling like part of the family. Couples often say, “It felt like having a friend capture our day,” and that’s exactly how it should be. You’ll usually find me right in the action, laughing with guests and capturing moments from up close. I believe the best photos come from being fully immersed in the day, not hiding at the back with a long lens. When your friends and family feel comfortable with me, that’s when I can document the most genuine moments.

That’s why connection matters so much. I want to capture your wedding from within, like a friend who just happens to have some very expensive cameras.

Full Day Coverage

I only take on a limited number of weddings each year so I can give every couple my full attention. From our first chat to the delivery of your images/videos/files, I’m with you every step of the way, offering guidance, support, and a commitment to capturing your day as it truly felt.

On the wedding day itself, I cover everything from morning prep right through to the dance floor. I don’t pack up after the first dance, some of the best photos happen later, when everyone has fully let go. From the quiet moments with loved ones to the wild energy of the party, every detail becomes part of your story. This approach means you can relive your day exactly as it was and share that story with future generations, right down to the laughs, tears, and epic dance moves.

" The BEST photographer and person ever. Ray really knows his stuff and his expertise and skills made for a seamless day. Ray provided hybrid coverage (photo + film), we are honestly both speechless. We knew the pictures would be good but they really were like something out of a magazine. How he had time to also capture the day via video (see below) i’ll never know! Everyone at the wedding commented on how special Ray was and how he felt like part of the family! There wasn’t a person he didn’t make smile, he’s a true legend "

" We booked Ray after seeing his work and how great he was at a friend's wedding. We knew we were booking a great photographer, but he honestly surpassed what we were expecting. A great bloke to have around all of our guests on the day and the end results are phenomenal! If you are thinking of booking Ray - DO IT!!!! "

THE FAMILY PHOTOS

When it comes to family photos, I take a VIP approach, grandparents, parents, siblings, bridesmaids and groomsmen. This set usually takes 10–15 minutes, meaning you can get back to enjoying time with your guests rather than standing around for 40 minutes like penguins.

Photos with friends, colleagues or anyone outside the immediate family can easily be done later in the day when things are more relaxed and time isn’t so tight. Most weddings have a natural lull where we can capture these extras without missing key moments.

If you’re after 50 group shots and every possible combination, I’m probably not the right photographer for you, my priority is telling the story of your day, not running through a checklist.

THE PORTRAITS

Here we go, the good stuff. I know a lot of couples hate having their photo taken, let alone being asked to pose in ways you would never do in real life. Just like the rest of the day, I believe portraits should unfold naturally. My direction is simple, I might suggest where to stand or walk, but the goal is for you to feel like yourselves so the photos reflect your story and personality.

As I said earlier, a wedding is a wedding, not a photo shoot. Group photos and portraits are a trade-off, the longer we spend on them, the less time I have to capture the laughter, hugs and chaos happening with your guests. That is why I usually take portraits in two short five minute windows. One after the group shots and one later in the day, giving you two distinct looks, daytime and sunset. If you are up for a touch of editorial posing, just let me know and we can include that too.

" Ray made us feel so comfortable on our wedding day, as we aren’t that comfortable in front of a camera. He has an incredible eye for detail. The highlight video he made for us was a masterpiece in our eyes, it really made us feel like we relived the entire day again which was so special to us. Every single guest we had was blown away. Basically, just go and book Ray and you WONT regret it! "

Picking the right photographer

Right, let’s start by saying you’re not just buying ‘nice photos’ – we live in a world with so many nice instagram feeds, but it’s not just aesthetics. I’ve seen loads of photographers who have a large majority of their instagram feeds/website from content days, workshops etc. (no pressure, no time constraints, models, perfect setups)

A nice instagram grid or website doesn’t tell you if they can handle chaos, keep you from shitting your pants before you go down the aisle, read the room, move portraits later in the timeline as you booked a live singer for the reception and you actually want to listen to them. That stuff doesn’t live on pretty feeds – It lives in experience. (350+ weddings over 10 years, I got you covered)

The real risk isn’t just bad photos, it’s a bad fit. Feeling awkward, being dragged around, missing the good bits because someone was too busy staging ‘the perfect shot’. So here’s the meat and bones of it: don’t ask yourself ‘do we like their photos?’ – instead ask yourself ‘do we trust this person to show up on the day and smash it out the park’ (read my reviews).

Once you realise that, you stop scrolling for the prettiest grid and start looking for the person, the vibe, the energy you want to spend your entire day with, someone who will sing along to the fresh prince of bel air during bride prep, someone who will knock out some body popping on the dance floor before capturing the bridesmaid whacking out the perfect worm – and it that ends up being me – happy bloody days!!
