Charlton Hall, Northumberland: Weddings with Character and Charm

Charlton Hall is the perfect mix of luxury, quirkiness, and charm—a venue like no other, set in the heart of the Northumberland countryside. With its grand baroque architecture, lush gardens, and unexpected quirky touches (like a giraffe coming out of the wall), Charlton Hall is a wedding venue that stands out, just like the couples who get married here.

Whether it’s a winter wedding like Grace and Ben’s, complete with the iconic tunnel of fairy lights and confetti showers at the front of the hall, or a chic spring celebration like Carrie and Dean’s, where the energy on the dance floor was electric, Charlton Hall offers something unique for every couple. I’ve had the pleasure of documenting several incredible weddings at this stunning venue, and every single one has been filled with personality, laughter, and unforgettable moments.

Charlton Hall Wedding Photography

One of the most memorable Charlton Hall weddings I had the pleasure of photographing was for Grace and Ben. They really pulled out all the stops for their winter wedding, with luxurious black-tie attire, stunning florals, and meticulously detailed décor. The ceremony started with Grace walking through the iconic tunnel of fairy lights, and from there, the day unfolded beautifully. I loved capturing the joy and energy of their guests during the drinks reception, group portraits, and couple shots. It’s always such a pleasure to photograph weddings where I feel like part of the family, and Grace and Ben’s day was no exception.

Grace later shared, “We love all the photos, which reflect our day beautifully. Ray was a calming and funny presence throughout—especially for someone who isn’t a fan of having her picture taken! He made everyone feel relaxed and at ease. We had the best time going through the photos, especially the evening ones when everyone was particularly merry!”

Another fantastic day at Charlton Hall was Carrie and Dean’s springtime wedding. The couple had a day full of laughter, emotion, and genuine human connection—three things that always drive my photography. Carrie’s bridesmaids rocked black dresses, and her dog, Raine, made an appearance in an adorable flower crown. It’s little touches like these that make every Charlton Hall wedding so memorable. Not to mention the epic Newcastle signing, which had everyone in stitches!

Carrie shared afterward, “Ray really did feel like just having an extra guest at our wedding. He joked and talked with everyone, making a lasting impression on all of our friends and family. The images we’ve received are breathtaking and captured the essence of the day perfectly.”

The Perfect Backdrop for Authentic Moments

Charlton Hall is a photographer’s dream, not just because of the grand baroque architecture and picturesque gardens, but also because of its unique, quirky interiors. From the reception area to the colorful ceremony room, each space offers a stunning backdrop for capturing natural, unposed moments. I always say, “It’s a wedding, not a photoshoot,” and Charlton Hall perfectly complements this philosophy.

One of the most fun weddings I’ve photographed here was Zoe and Joy’s winter wedding, complete with light dustings of snow and a clear blue sky. The brides looked amazing in their wedding dresses paired with chic leather jackets—a fashion choice I’d never seen before, but absolutely loved! The whole day was relaxed and filled with genuine moments of joy and laughter.

Zoe shared, “Ray is honestly amazing—a genuinely nice and funny guy! We didn’t even notice he was there for most of the day, which resulted in some amazing natural photos. We can’t believe how talented he is!”

A Venue with Personality

Charlton Hall’s quirkiness is what makes it such a standout wedding venue. Whether it’s the bold colors, playful décor, or the cheeky monkeys on the wallpaper, this venue is all about personality. And that’s exactly what I aim to capture in my photography—real moments, real emotions, and real stories. I’ve been lucky enough to photograph so many incredible weddings at Charlton Hall, from chic black-tie events to more laid-back and whimsical celebrations, and every one of them has been special in its own way.

When Kerri and Max chose Charlton Hall for their wedding, they knew they were getting a venue that reflected their fun, easy-going vibe. Their day was a mix of laughter, gorgeous food, and fantastic company. One of the highlights was working alongside some amazing suppliers, including Mitch from A Little Less Salt on video, who helped bring the day to life.

Max said afterward, “Ray just slotted right in with us all—everyone absolutely loved him! You didn’t even know he was taking photos half of the time—silent cameras! We wish we could do it all over again just to have Ray there again.”
